I truly LOVE the idea, but I think you might want to consider using it as a middle name. The reason I think this is that if down the line you have another child, that second child may wonder why child number one was "important enough" to get named after you guys, but he/she wasn't. I think Jamie would be a perfect middle name, and in all seriousness, you could give it to all of your children as a middle name and just spell it differently each time! This way none of the children feel slighted. It would also be cool if you chose first names that all start with the same first letter, then all of the kids would have the same initials too! Again, I LOVE your idea, and I actully chose my daughter's middle name to be Maradell, which is a combo of my Mom's name (Adell) and my Grandmother's name (Mary). GOOD LUCK with your decision!

Jamie: sure.

Jamy: will get called "Jammy".

I have a good friend whose name is Tamara, and her husband's name is Anthony. They (belive it or not) named their child 'Antara' (pronounced 'Anne-Tara', combo of both names). I almost vomitted when she told me, and everyone else whom they told reported feeling the same way.

Part of me felt like slapping them and saying: "This is your daughter's LIFE! She is going to have this name FOREVER! It might seems cute now, but what about 30 years down the track when she is still trying to explain to everyone why her parents decided to give her a novelty name?!"

BUT...

now that Antara is almost a year old and I have got to know her and spent time with her, I can't see her as anything else but an 'Antara'. It suits her perfectly, and I don't even think about it being a hybrid name.

I guess all that matters is that YOU love the name and feel comfortable referring to your child that way.

ps. Jamie is such a common (and lovely, I might add) name, people probably wouldn't even click half the time if you didn't tell them!

I prefer the spellling "Jamie". Jaime is actually pronounced "HI-mee", and I think it's Spanish for Jamie.

this is your child and you have a right to name him or her anything you want. don't listen to what other say. this child is a announcement of the love that you and your wife share. so i can think of no better way to name your child than by combining both of your names. but i would spell it without the y.

What does Amy think of this?

Also, consider the child will be with this name for the rest of his/her life. Choose well and choose fair.
