Small snakes tend to be at least two to three feet and will require a twenty gallon breeder tank, so don't choose a type based on what is smallest.

All snakes will need a heat source and enough water to soak in, but if you go with a corn snake, milk snake, or a king snake you will not have to worry about humidity. They are also very easy to keep.

This site will be able to show you pictures of all the variations of snakes colors, and breeders so you can get a good idea of what really appeals to you.

Go for a Corn Snake or a Ball Python. Neither of them get very big, and both are very docile. Corns are a bit cheaper, with a wider array of colors. They both eat the same things and are fairly easy to take care of.

a ball python will be ok if you like to feed it live mice/or frozen It will eventually grow to about 4/5 feet. A corn snake won't grow quite as big but they aren't as docile.

i would go for a ball python, but make sure what ever kind of snake you get, to get it when it has just hatched, before it has shed it's first skin. if you get it then, you will feed it it's first meal, and it is less likely to strike at you. ball python's are very docile, and make wonderful pets, just make sure you are 100% confident that you are not affraid of them, or it will be difficult for you to continue careing for your snake the way you should. they will sense that you are tense while you are holding them, and that will make then uneasy. GOOD LUCK!!!!

corn snakes are good starter snakes and don't get to big and are inexpensive, ball pythons are also good for starters though they get bigger than corns.
