My boyfriend is 18 and I am 16. We live in San Diego, California and i was just wondering if its illegal for an "adult" to be dating a minor. Is it? Are there exeptions?

I'm not sure what the laws are in California, but I don't think it is illegal to be dating. If you are having sex, it is statutory rape (even if you consent... or agree) and that is illegal (because you are under-age). If your parents are okay with him, it shouldn't be a problem. However, if your parents do not like him, I would be very careful. Don't do anything you shouldn't be doing! It could cause him a lot of trouble... and you too, especially if you were to become pregnant! You would not want to deal with that at such a young age! If he loves you, he will not pressure you into anything.

As for just the difference in the age, it's not a big deal. Age is just a number. I've dated older men and I've dated younger men. They are all the same. However, considering that he is 18 (and adult) and you are 16 (not yet an adult), play it safe! Once you are 18, don't worry about the age difference as long as you love each other.

Good luck! :-)
