I think you should make it her decision, i would have liked to make that decision on my own too.

I have a 2.5 year old and I just got her ears pierced a couple of weeks ago. She did ask me, so I took her to get them done. Some people think she is too young but I personally think it looks pretty on little girls. Just wait for her to ask because I don't believe in forcing a child to have their ears pierced, it should be their choice. But 5 years old is fine if that is what you are worried about!

My mother made me wait till I was 9 years old, because she was afraid that I would get one ear done and would not like the pain and not want the other ear done! Then I got them pierced a second time when I was 18 years old! I think that you should wait till you feel she is ready and she wants to do it and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, you are her parents! Good luck and God bless!

I would never get a little child's ear's pierced for the following reasons:

1) It is a painful procedure
2) Although not always, without proper care it can lead to medical complications
3) A child shouldn't be encouraged to be a "sex object" at such a young age
4) As a young woman, say around 15 or 16, she should be able to decide what she wants to do with her body, rather than endure this invasive procedure as a helpless child

I have two daughters and got both of their ears pierced when they were 4 months old. It was a lot easier to take care of then and they haven't bothered them. One is now 3 and the other is 8 months.

Children should never be subjected to body piercing of any type. They should wait till they are at least 16, so they will not regret having made a mistake. AND, certainly, parents should never make that decision for a 5 year old child!! I would consider that abuse.

Chow!!

Well i agree my family believes that you should wait till the child asks for them. It is the best way. Because some of them usually don't want there's pierced when they get older. Plus they can take care of them there own self. I waited till i was 10 then i got mine pierced cause i asked.

I agree with you wait til they ask, these people that get their daughters ears pierced at birth I think is cruel because of the pain and the fact that its another creavise to worry about getting infected.

i used to pierce ears for the icing by claires. i hated to do babies and kids that cried. especially older kids that wanted them but then paniced. this is what i recommend.

*wait until she asks

*explain to her that it's a lil pinch (it might hurt)

*get both ears done at the same time (a double piercing is when you have one person on each ear that doesnt cost any extra)

*if she decides that she doesnt want them at the last minute, don't yell at her or pressure her. just come back another day

*if you can't do a double piercing, due to one person being in the store and she still wants to go through with it, but then decides it hurts to much after the 1st ear, tell whomever pierced her ear you'll come back with the left over earring at a later date to pierce the other ear (keep your reciept and forms they usually won't charge you if you come back with the earring and forms/reciept) DON'T GET UPSET WITH YOUR DAUGHTER it hurts and it's scary

last but not least, let her sit on your lap so she feels more relaxed and safe.....if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me and i'll can go over prices for ear piercing at claires....
