The CJ was the predecessor of the Jeep Wrangler. They started right after WWII when the returning GIs wanted a Jeep like they had when overseas. So Jeep decided to go into production of the
(C)ivilian (J)eep. There were several different models of CJ

It's a Civilian Jeep.....they were made in the 70's and stopped in the mid 80's...they are very sought after and have a high resale value...they look similar to the jeep wranglers of today. Newer jeep wranglers are called TJ.'s and before that they were called Y.J.'s and before that they were called C.J.'s

Generally, regardless of type Jeeps are garbage. Check consumer reports for info on reliability etc. You're basically buying the JEEP name, which is nice, but doesnt keep you out of the repair shops.
