Where is there a list of the most common English words?

Question

I need a list of the most commonly used English words. But a LONG lost, as long as possible -- 10,000, 20,000, even more. Can anyone send links to sites that have word list files available for downloading? Word frequency files for different domains would be helpful, too -- e.g. science, literature, etc.

(The wordcount.org site doesn't seem to have a link that allows me to download a copy of the list, which is what I need. Cool site, though.)
