Sorry I forgot to mention, I would use a pseudo name and have my web address on the back for comments and to follow up or read other shorts in the series (all follow 1 character during one horrible day at home, work and all places between). I just wanted to know if there were soliciting and littering laws. Thanks for the speedy answers.

Make sure that no where on the bus says "NO SOLICITING". you can get sued for that if the ppl want to be rude.

There are no legal concerns with this, other than the fact it may be littering. Copyright laws are to protect the author and they state that once thoughts are put on paper it is protected by copyright laws and no one can plagiarize. I have to ask why you want to do this and not take credit for your work? Why wouldn't you want to try to publish in a magazine or create your own blog? If you don't want to be recognized, then publish under a pseudo name. It's your work, you can do whatever you want with it... but if you just leave it out in the open such as you describe, then someone can steal it. Wouldn't it suck to come across one of your stories one day, under a different name? Work is work, and you should try to get credit for it, even it is for yourself. Just my opinion... do what you want.

that's a merchandising approach with ability. instead of bus littering, I propose you're making your short thoughts advantageous and presentable; i.e. revealed and sure, then you somewhat go away a internet site handle to your on line profile the place you have samples of your different writing works. then you somewhat provide away your short thoughts to your friends and family members and family members - no longer finished strangers - or a minimum of so some distance as acquaintances of your friends. Make a contest of a few type promising a prize which you've got adequate funds to offer, a fortunate draw perhaps, to incentivise them to bypass on your thoughts to others. this could create a viral phenomenon to your thoughts. Then approaches to industry on it, to make the main of this.

You can be sly and incorporate something into the ending of your story has a character saying "when your done with this, pass it on" or something along those lines; . That way if someone decides to sue you (which is unlikely btw) you can say you forgot it.

It's a clever idea, but why not just post your work on a writer's message board? Millions of different people could see it and leave comments. If you're willing to leave a copy of your work on a bus, I don't see how a message board could be any different.

Check your transit agency for their littering policies.
Better yet, ask a local coffee house or hang out if they would stock your stories!

I think it would be fine. Just remember if someone publishes one of your stories under his or her name, there will not be anything you can do about it.

Why don't you post them on your web site and let us read them?

Good luck.
