No and it is not because other countries have higher prices then we do. America has paid the standard worldwide cost for gasoline always. The difference between Europe and Canada from us is that they pay more taxes on theirs, the bottom line cost still remains the same. You should look this up before you assume. (not directed at the OP)
Gasoline will not go down past 2$ per gallon. To many oil companies are reporting record profits. Do people think this is some kind of coincidence or something? I honestly dont understand. Bush has ran a couple of oil companies before. Do you know what happened to them? He ran them into the ground. The same thing he is doing with this country.

Don't be stupid. Bush has nothing to do with the price of gas. Do you really think that the president runs the country? The gas and oil companies have all gotten together to see how much they can gouge out of the American public. The government, including Bush as well as congressmen and senators, have already been bought off and will do absolutely nothing to change it. After all, the bribes from the gas and oil companies are much higher than the salaries of a president or senator or congressman.

There is indeed a potential for fuel prices to drop - but it will take leadership in the White House and Congress to accomplish it.
It isn't easy to conduct and make stick the kind of investigations into collusion, prive fixing, and gouging that are in fact going on right now. You can BET that the next 2 years are going to see an amazing amount of evidence disappearing from view, too.
Of course, who says we'll be rid of Bush?
Too many people think he'll stage or allow some violent event to create an excuse for imposing martial law, suspending elections and staging a coup to take over the country.
Let's remember, the world's most dangerous terrorist right now is George W. Bush.

Umm....BUSH isn't buying millions of gallons of refined gasoline a day. YOU ARE! Soon as you hoof it, or thumb it, or bus it, or train it, or telecommute or boot your car for a good bike!....gas prices will come down so fast, your head will spin!
Power is in money, and money is in your pocket, how you use it determines the price of most things. Don't want high gas prices? Don't drive! Don't want wars for oil? Stop using gas, and plastics and imported stuff. Grow your own food, or buy from local producers (Florida oranges have to be TRUCKED in on TRUCKS running on GAS!). Anyway, you get the point. Don't use things that use oil. Then you'll force the government and the corporations to find another way to fleece you, but at least they can't use OIL to blackmail you.

A good recent article about oil in US News and World Report. It's a fairly balanced news magazine.
GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT OIL

from the story...
Over the next 25 years, if China and India grow as much as South Korea has since 1980, those two countries alone will consume three times as much energy as the United States does today. As the Third World becomes the Second World and then the First World, energy demand will soar, and not surprisingly, so will energy prices.

Yes, if we get the right person.. I'd assume that a viable alternative to gas powered cars would bring down the price of gas. If we get a president who makes it a priority to put ethenol pumps at every gas station and come out with more alternatives, the gas prices would decrease..

What people don't understand is that the price of oil (and therefore gas) has alot to do with SPECULATION. The price of oil goes up when traders of oil futures precieve a decrease in supply and vice versa. The price of oil will go down when the mideast, Nigeria, and Venezuela are less volatile, and the USA begins to produce its own oil.

The US government does not control oil prices. They will not go down if the President is out of office, If you elect Jesus, or even Michael Moore, neither will have any affect.
