Eternity is time w/out beginning or end. infinite time. it is the timeless state following death. The afterlife or immortality. Eternal life is the soul. The physical form of the human body can dessicate but the soul remains. It is for this soul, that prayers are said after death for it to enter the gates of H eaven. At times, the body can be tortured, and sacrificed but the soul or spirit remains. This eternal soul or life would be in spiritual communion With eternal God in the afterlife.

Eternal equals infinity. We have always and will always exist. In the eternal plane we call heaven, we experience unconditional love for one another. That is, we love one another regardless of each others faults and do not expect anything in return. Since heaven is part of our eternal existence after this life. I must say ultimately that as far as the reasons for the soul go:

ETERNAL = UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

eternity is what is meant to last forever, and forever means always, thus if this moment/emotion/ or whatever it is, it will be present anytime for the rest of the time way ahead in the future, known as never ending. Just like a circle, it is eternal.

In my words,
Eternity we weave
Our souls seeking
Misty love
Unveiling itself
To the melody of the cosmos
One song completed in harmony
Leads us to begin anew.
The word resonates in song
Eternally in the soul

Some beautiful quotes:

"Knowledge raises the soul to the rank of God; love unites the soul with God; use perfects the soul to God. These three transport the soul right out of time into eternity."
- Pfeiffer, Franz, Meister Eckhart, page 286.

"Philosophers say the Soul is double-faced, her upper face gazes at God all the time and her lower face looks somewhat down, informing the senses; and the upper face, which is the summit of the soul, is in eternity and has nothing to do with time: it knows nothing of time or of body."
- Meister Eckhart

Cygnus, the Swan, flying in mid-heaven. The swan of eternity, flying in time and space, is the symbol of Life itself. . .

Neither pain nor anxiety can overwhelm the man who dwells in the consciousness of eternity; this sense of the eternal, coupled with the realization of essential unity, marks all dwellers . . .

. . .that dynamic spiritual awareness which manifests in the reorientation to eternity and the eternal values which is the distinguishing feature of the man who is ready to take the necessary steps to demonstrate his spiritual life and to function as an immortal.

The key to the overcoming of death and to the processes of realizing the meaning and nature of eternity and the continuity of life can with safety be revealed only when love holds sway over the human consciousness, and where the good of the whole, and not the selfish good of the individual, comes to be the supreme regard.

The Law of the Universe (and what is law but the working out of the purposes of these all-embracing Lives, of Their impulses and Their plans?) is to all eternity the good of the whole and naught can arrest this happening; for who can arrest the impact of these energies which play upon and through our planet.

The only true eternity is in the now. You, me, everyone is always in this moment.

there is no such thing as eternal , because eternity is still time bound , and what is time bound must come to pass , and time begins and ends with the mind...but , you , are not just eternal , but infinite.
