Who has it worse in society? Lesbians or gay men? Gay men have been praised in the media lately, yet with that stereotype of being the "fabulous" best friend to gals and not taken seriously. Lesbians haven't had much "bashing" before, but they are seen as as a sexy fantasy, thus making straight men think that they have a chance to "convert" them and many times not taken seriously either. So the question is: Who has it harder?

(Btw, to avoid criticism, I've barely come to terms with me being a lesbian.)

Yes, I'm sorry carora13, I didn't mention them. However I do know trans and herms do have it harder than both combine. I was bi for a long time, and I never felt it was very hard at all. Almost every girl I know is bi, but it is sort of considered sorta the "poser gay". But I'm sure a lot of bi people have gone through a lot of hard times too.

I used to think that gay men had a harder time because sexually they couldn't fake sex..couldn't fake an erection...so it would always be known...and a woman could simply fake it.....but 40 years later I realize that it's a difficult journey for all of us.....I don't generally like this type of comparison question......We all have our own lives...everyone has a story worth listening to...

I guess I've heard of more violence against gay men, but I think lesbians have a harder time in gaining equal rights in jobs and housing, etc., so maybe it's about the same for each, just in different ways.

I think at time both the two have it bad at times....people are just stupid and don't understand and frankly don't try to understand...If people would just take a moment to get to know someone who is they would realize that gays and lesbians are no different them any one else, so what if they like the same sex...they are people too. Just be proud of who you are and don't let others get you down.....they just really don't know any better.....they have been raised by families that come from generations of not knowing any better..and this is not your fault.

I don't feel like some sort of poor victimized minority boo hoo and all that, so I'd say no one has it "worse." I just don't know what else to say to this. I guess if you are sensitive and you give a flying **** about what other people think of you, and derive your self-image from their opinions, you might feel disadvantaged. But I don't so I can't say that I've experienced much of a downside to being a gay man. And those few few few very rare problems I have had were enjoyably fixed with a fist.

I am a straight women. I have had lesbian and gay friends. I don't know that one has it worse than the other. I believe it has to do with how they act in public as well as straight people. I know you all get more whispers and finger pointing.

Probably one of the two groups you forgot, bisexuals and transgendered. Bi people get treated like crap from breeders and GLBT people. Trans people don't even exist, unless they're going to jail or getting their face turned into hamburger.

I think non-straight men have it much more difficult in our society. Lesbians (especially lesbian couples) are much more accepted.
