I did this job for a designer. He still owes me $100. I believe he got upset because he got his drawings later than he expected. It was his own fault also because he always kept canceling our meetings. I canceled 2, he did it 4 times. Anyways I finally finished but when I tried calling him, he says he will return my call but doesn't. He asks me to send my invoice after complaining, but then just ignores me for another 2 weeks. I have proof that he knows what I am talking about because we communicated through e-mail. Any suggestions as to how to get my $100 from this a-ho@#?

I wouldn't bother with the small claims court for 100 dollars.

Unless there was a written contract, the judge will go by the common person standard - which basically says, "what would the common person would do in this situation?"

Your chance in winning is 50/50. He can claim you were late. He can also claim a lot of things you aren't even aware of.

Also, police will not likely get involved for civil matters like this, although you can file a report claiming fraud.

Call a lawyer. You probably won't even have to go to court. If you just get a lawyer and ask the lawyer to write a request for a settlement I'm sure the designer will just send you the check. The downside to getting a lawyer is it will probably eat up most of the $100.

Drop by unannounced to visit him, when you know he is in the office. Be polite, and tell him you want the money that he owes you. Give him a chance to explain why he hasn't paid you yet, and then if he still doesn't want to pay you, tell him the next time he hears from you it will be through your lawyer. If you have to take him to court, make sure you have everything. Emails, dates of canceled meetings, and who canceled them, and if possible witnesses. Good luck.

Alls you can do is take him to small claims court. Not sure where you live, but in Indiana it costs about $78.00. Then what you do, is add that to your $100.00 that he already owes you. If you really wanted to get him back for all this time he hasn't paid you, you can add up to $1300.00 to his bill. If I were you, i would try to go for $300-$500. So that is it. It may take another 2 months to get your money...but at least you know for a face you will get it. Good Luck.

Pay a lawyer to send a letter with intent to sue. That usually works, if not go to court. I'am glad you kept your emails from him. Good luck

Sue him man what the hell. That is the American way. Small claims court or even take it up with the Labor Department, they will get you all the interest too...hehehe!
