Don't ever do a "pre-med" program! Not unless you are EXTREMELY competitive and it is one of those programs whre you do an accelerated baccalaureate degree in 3 years and are automatically admitted to the medical school. Otherwise, "pre-med" as a major is a STUPID idea.

You can do ANY major and be eligible for medical school as long as you complete the medical prequisite coursework.

Preqs include:
Baccalaureate coursework must include:
1 year general chem (with lab)
1 year organic chem (with lab)
1 year general biology (with lab)
1 year intro. physics (with lab)
1 year English
1 year calculus
Suggested coursework includes: psychology, statistics, biochemistry, humanities

The trick is to NOT major in biology. Biology major pre-meds are a dime a dozen, and they will be your stiffest competition for A's. You want A's. To get them, become a HUMANITIES major, ace the easy fluffy stuff, then focus your power on the prereqs. You'll graduate with a higher GPA, and not suffer from much of the stress the rest of us feel when we're up against 400 bio majors with the same goal of topping the curve. I was a molecular biology major, and it singlehandedly ruined my chances of getting into medical school.

Anyway, so if you really must know some nitty gritty, you want to look for a statistic called "matriculation rate" and see the proportion of students who apply versus get into medical school. Generally, top tier schools have higher matriculations rates.

ADDENDUM for ALO: If you knew anything about the medical school admissions process, you would know that medical schools DO NOT accept AP credits to fulfill prerequisite coursework. You MUST take those classes in college.

For any pre-med program you need a strong science and math background.

A high ACT score won't get you far. The exam only covers basic algebraic math to geometry

You need to at least take a Cal class, an advanced college-level Sci class offered at school

Average high school GPA 3.34

^^Actually you can complete all of those credits in High School (with the exception of Organic Chem) with the completion of several passing Advanced Placemnt exams (which means $82 per exam times 7 exams gives you $574) The A.P. exams are proctored in May so you have summer plus the schol year to study those subjects, what I would suggest is that you purchase several books from Amazom and start studying.

Ram, do a seek on FREIDA. this could enable you to study the residency classes obtainable in Ohio. For the undergrad college, do a seek on the association of yankee scientific colleges. That internet site has surprisingly much each and every certainty and statistic that's recommended to appreciate.

i go to the university of cincinnati and i really havent heard that it is great but i havent heard it sucks either. i dont think there are any special requirements for it, as with most pre professional programs. try going to www.uc.edu there are rankings for their various programs.
