If they are really putting you down there are other problems that don't have anything to do with music. I'm guessing that you are black and white music is written/sung by a white person. If that's true and its a racial issue, you take the high road and ask them to respect your likes and dislikes. There was a song called Ebony and Ivory you might try to find and listen to.

It is sad that your parents are making fun of your musical choices. One way to learn to relate to other people and cultures is by developing an appreciation for their music.

If you end up being a musician later in life, your wide repertoire of musical experience will make your range of creativity far wider than if you had only listened to one type of music.

Ignore your parents and listen to the music you like. The next time they make fun of you, say 'Do I make fun of the music YOU listen to? I dont care what color a musicians skin is if they make great music, and you shouldnt either."

what white music? beethoven and mozart stuff? those guys rule. if you're talkin Linkin Park or Good Charlotte, they are right to ridicule your bad taste. but get this, where does the 1-4-5 chord progression come from which all 'punk' and rock bands use from time to time? comes from the blues which ain't exactly wonderbread.

I kind of understand how you feel. I just don't listen to music around anyone in my family. If you don't like rap and r&b, don't try and force yourself to. And since I doubt they're gonna stop making fun of you unless you tell them to, just do what I do. Don't sing around them, and don't listen to music around them (unless you have headphones).

You should listen to what you like and do not pay any attention to them. Besides, rap has too much violence in the songs.

Don't worry about it... as long as it doesnt get you into massive arguments with them, and the music isn't bad... listen to what you like.
