Ok, I'm starting Highschool this september. I have a question about what people wear. We have a dress code but It's pretty loose. You can't show up in a bathing suit, but if you dress in a tank you won't get yelled at. My real question is if there are still "labels" (prep, emo, punk...) in high school and if people really pay attention to what you wear? I don't dress "all out" for school. I rarely wear makeup & I never wear heels to school. I usually wear Jeans with a fitted tee and sandles, or a sweater with a short but "not too short" skirt. Do highschoolers really dress different than middle schoolers or is that just a mith? I mean do highschooler really stop wearing branded clothes and start dressing "cool" or do they still dress in Abercrombie and American Eagle? Don't worry, I am extremelly focused on my schoolwork, but I like to present myself nice. I always wear what I want, not what the latest style is, unless I DO actaully like it. So thanks. & please share what you know. =]

Since you're a freshman, I think fashion shouldn't be TOO big of a deal. Entering High School means that you're "fresh meat" to the Upperclassmen, especially guys. Of course you dont want to look like a "hobbit" or anything, but here's how you should dress:

Be fun! Wear some very colorful sneaks (Converses are cute!) and a nice bag and some jeans that are in style. Get a hair cut and maybe wear a lil lipgloss and cute nail polish (you know, the lil stuff) But I warn you not to go overboard (Heavy makeup, high heels, lots of jewelry). Although it draws attention, it draws TOO much attention for a Freshman (guys look at freshman as an "easy catch") and if you look the part, you may get the wrong type of friends...girls and even new friends will start hating on you if you're "overdone"

Just keep it light, and as you progress through High School, progress your fashion statement. You can slip in some high heels and some skirts every now and then, but dont wear it out. You will be made fun of...

I hope that helps out. Just wait til you hit college.... you'll be relieved at how less fashionable you'll have to be....

well at my school freshman and sophmores are more like the kind of people that wear labels and buy expensive things since they're not the ones living off their paychecks. my advice to you is wear little or no makeup, save up money for things like clothes and other things at american eagle or abercrombie b/c most parents won't buy u anything from there until your birthday or the holidays if u plan on wearing those kind of clothes although i don't (just to let u know) but i'm going to be a senior and juniors and seniors really don't care what they wear expensive or not. some people at highschool will often judge you by the way you look, act and dress so be careful about what you choose. if you're not the kind of american eagle or abercrombie dresser just dress the way u want to be yourself and don't worry about others think about you. just don't wear anything that'll make you look childish that's the last thing you'll ever need

The way high schooler dress run the mill...you have some who will walk around dressing to the tee and wearing makeup, heels, etc. But, most high schoolers, while trying out different trends, still keep it simple, such as jeans and cute shirts, with the occasional skirt or some other look. And, with all the different clicks, some people will stick to wearing and looking one way...but, just be comfortable in your skin and wear what you want. That way, you won't be worrying about the new trends, etc.

The first day of schoolmeans it's a time for renewal in teen fashion (read: a time to find a great new look!).

The first day of school is the first appearance you have after three whole months - make it a good one, because first impressions matter.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your big debut ensemb:

Keep things simple and classic, nothing in-your-face or over the top.
It's okay to be a little trendy, but you have to adapt the trends to your personal style, or you'll end up looking like a major trend-chaser.
Put on the confidence! If you don't have it, fake it. When you aren't doubting yourself, no one else will doubt you or your clothing choices.

just started high school,
yes, unfortunately there are still labels, but only with lower classmen, upperclassmen are to occupied with college/their grades.
People do pay attention to what u wear, but mostly they either compliment you, or look through you
Ambercrombie and American Eagle are actually the clothes of choice(although i disapprove of Ambercrombie due to their method of advertisement, but whatever works for you) And most wear brand names
What you mentioned you wear is perfect, but maybe dress up sometimes with a small heel.
Most lower classmen wear little or no makeup, but upperclassmen are generally more experimental with it.
Highschoolers don't dress too much differently than middle schoolers, but there are always a couple of people who go all out when they start highschool.
Most of all, (and yes i know it sounds cheesy, but it's true) be yourself. If you dress to please others, you'll never be happy with yourself

hi! i am a model so i hope i can help with this stuff!
first of all i want to say you are sooooooo (ooooooo) lucky that your school lets you wear tanks and stuff .. my school is so strict! : P just had to say that, sry!
you probably have the exact same style as my friend does .. cute clothes that are sorta in but are pretty much her style.
i have to say that the high school trends can be different but are pretty much the same. some people go off and wear expensive designer clothing and others stay with the basics: AE , A&F, and Hollister.
All i have to say is to stick with what you love to wear .. but it is ok every once in a while to follow the crowd, and good for you to only go with it if you love the trend!
(i dont really like high heels either .. : ) )

i hope your school year is fun ..
best wishes!

well i graduated highschool last year, in 05.. and people wore cute, trendy things... but there were so many people there.. i don't think it was so bad where people were "talking about what you were wearing behind your back"... just stay with your friends who love you for who u are.. not what you wear, and find new friends who feel the same... i'm a fashion major, but i think that's the best advice i can give here.

just remember to have fun, focus, and not be concerned about what others think of you. good luck in highschool!

they dress the same
remember they are still the same people you went to middle school with so think about what they will be wearing or ask them
american eagle and abercrombie and aeropostale and hollister are definetly still 'in'!

hi. I am starting high school tomorrow but i have noticed this.(and heard)
They really do dress diferently. They wear nicer things, and i am gonna assume that they still judge you. They supposedly wear eye shadow and linet but they still wear A&F and AE
