Cross multiply, and see if the two answers are equal.

6.4 * 1.2 = 7.68
7.2 * 0.8 = 5.76

Since they aren't, the two proportions are not equal.

Well, if you put 6.4 divided by 7.2 into your calculator you get .888
and if you put .8 divided by 1.2 into your calculator you get .66667 so it's clear the equation isn't true.

The easiest way is to move the decimal over one place:
64/72 = 8/12

then reduce the fractions to their lowest:
64/72 can be reduced to 8/9
8/12 can be reduced to 2/3
so they are NOT equal

Just divide them out.

6.4/7.2 = .888888...
0.8/1.2 = .666666...

The two are not equal to each other.

To check if a/b = c/d you check if a*d = b*c
6.4*1.2 = 7.68
7.2*0.8 = 5.76
So they are not equal!
