I'm going to get a Xbox 360 next Saturday and I don't want it to fall to the same fate all my other systems suffer. My Xbox and Playstation 2 can barely work and I think it's the dust's fault. How can I prep my room for the arrival of my Xbox 360?

Well, unfortunately, electronic products have a static charge that attracts dust to them.

The first thing you want to do is, decide to set to it, get the vacuum ready, brooms, mops and clean up.

I have a pet dog, that doesn't help.

Basically, I rinsed the room floor and furniture down with white vinegar, as commercial products make for sticky residue, and I have no time to keep cleaning and buying things that don't do what they are supposed to do.

White vinegar does not leave a scent, does not leave residue, wipes off dust from electronic products (damp cloth, not wet) really well, happens to get screens perfectly clean and is cheap.

Also, I had a door exiting outdoor directly from that room that had all the dust, the room full of electronics, static charges, etc. I don't use that door anymore, I use the inside house door, and I try and not open the window. Stuff was just blowing in from the window.

See, electronics have cooling fans for the chip inside, so you want to keep that room dust free to start with. I know this sounds anal, but take a good look at the dust. Pets, pet dander, unclean a/c vents and common floor dirt all conspire to ruin our equipment.

Also, keep a good 6 inches of space between your equipment and stuff. Don't put stuff near it. Stuff and the static charge makes it all worse.

I went through this discovery process, so you don't have to!

Grab a roll of paper towels and a spray bottle (with cleaning solution or water) and start wiping down anything in your room that's dusty. Do this every 2 weeks and the dust will be a thing of the past. Also, make sure that your bed is covered so the dust particles don't fall on it.

Move everything and dust. Then purchase a cover or just place a towel over your XBOX when not in use. Also, a oxygen blower works good(it is the same thing used to blow dust out of your keyboard or computer).

Make a cover for the new x-box and dust before it arrives.

Dust and vaccuum your room at least once a week. That should keep the dust down.

Dust more often,at least 2 times a week if not more.
That should help with the problem.

cover it with a clear plastic that will still allow the game to be used. You can find these sometimes already made. Ask someone in the store about this, they should help
