I frankly love answering your question because guess where I am, at 8:50 P.M. on this Thursday evening, 3 August 2006? I am in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. and South Portland is a wonderful little place fairly close to the Atlantic Ocean. At Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth, for example, you can park your car for free and walk one minute right into the Atlantic Ocean for a swim. And if you go across the Casco Bay Bridge into Portland, two miles away, you can hop on a Casco Bay Lines ferry and go out on Casco Bay. They call them the Calendar Islands because there are over 365 of them in Casco Bay. Up the street from my home about one mile is Captain Newick's Restaurant, where you can have a delightful lunch or dinner for two for about 18 American dollars. Tea is a dollar, and you can refill as many times as you like. Maine is tucked off to the far right on the map of the United States... 'way up to the far upper right-hand corner. If you look closely, you will see me seated here typing this to you right now. A moment ago there was this God-awful loud buzzing sound and a big cloud of black smoke that went up from the manhole cover in the street. Methane gas had built up in the sewer line and it exploded and blew the sewer lid sky-high into the air! It was so funny - something right out of a movie... so provincial, because just like you might expect, all the neighbors came out of their homes all around the scene of the incident and stood at the edge of the street with their arms folded in front of their chests, surveying the place where it had just happened. It was all very 1953-ish. My neighborhood is back in the 1950s. Everyone is kind to everyone, no one bothers you, but in classic New England fashion, let something were to happen to you, someone will be at your door within one minute. Well, that's the scoop from South Portland, Maine. I hope where you are it is a pleasant evening. Yesterday it was 95 degrees here and very, very muggy. This evening it is in the fifties and the two cats we keep are sitting relaxed looking out through screens from our back hall. Contentment. Take good care, and thank you for asking where everyone is! Sent with good energies to you from Chris.
