I really don't think it is physically appealing. I think it has more to do with what expectations are for these women. They don't need to appeal sexually; but they must exemplify female professionalism to the nth degree.

It appeals to everybody that way. Men don't care if other men are attractive, and women, though they care about male attractiveness, are more interested in other qualities, like intelligence, warmth, and dignity.

When it comes to female newscasters, the men want someone they can ogle, and the women want a fashion plate. (Incidentally, the same principle holds true for movie stars. Male stars can look like Adam Sandler. Female stars have to be, at *minimum*, Emily Watson.)

TV exec's know that men are more apt to channel flipping than women, and more apt to stop when they see a pretty girl, whereas women are more interested in sticking with a channell for a while, seeing its merit before moving on.

For this reason its strategic to have pretty female news people, and for the men, whatever, it doesn't matter.

As for gay guys, they're watching the cooking channel so no need to get their attention.

I think that it has to do with the woman being a status symbol in our society. Powerful men like to have a wife that "represents" them,,men in general like to have a wife that makes them feel young and sexy. Men have a funny way of being able to have a gorgeous wife and not wonder why they themselves are not very attractive. It's because they (men) seem to be able to project an image of themselves, based on how beautiful their woman is. Sadly, women area also guilty of not wanting to view an older women because it then gives them the realistic picture of who they are or are becoming. They (women) try so hard to fight the aging process every day, the billions of dollars spent on "product" tells us that this is true.

I disagree. The men are just as attractive as the women for the most part. The reason is that viewers won't look at an ugly person. It's purely for the money.

I disagree. I think that most male news reporters have that jock-y, super-tan, white-teeth look. The males are "good looking" in the same bland, corn-fed, generic manner that the women are!

TV News shows are about ratings, not news.

I'm not sure why, but try watching the Mexican news some time. The boobs on the women there are ENORMOUS!!! It's like they shoved two small watermelons down their shirt.

Amen to that! Sorry I don't have a "real answer". I guess b/c men are more shallow when it comes to girls looks. Sorry guys, no diss intended but I thik it has been proven that men are "more visual", maybe that's why.

Because men watch news. Women listen to it.
