I'm not the greatest math "student" due to having a full-time 10hr job each day and trying to juggle life, work, family and college work. I'm looking for advice on what math class I should take next.... trig or pre calculus? I have to go all the way through Calc 4 but want to go about it the right way. Thanks for your help!

What I would do first is 1) contact the Education Department in your state to find out 'exactly' what you will need in terms of math in order to complete your studies. Many times the requirements are different depending upon your choice of "elementary Ed, middle school, or high school". One of my staff is having a problem right now because she has been teaching Algebra to middle school for 5 years. Now all of a sudden, we don't have the numbers we need to maintain her in our 8th grade and she now has to teach 7th grade with 5 additional subjects added to the plate! This is stressful for her since it has been years that she taught English, Science, etc. I would strongly suggest that you take everything you need to take. I am sure when you graduate, your state will require some kind of "test" to help you qualify into the area of math you want to go into. Here, if you studied and want to be qualified to teach Algebra, Geometry, Calc, Trig - you have to take the Praxis tests in all those areas (this can be expensive to the student too) and pass them all. Good luck. I encourage you as an incoming teacher. We need more of you.

I took trig and pre-cal at the same time but I think it is recommended to have trig first. Check with your adviser or a higher lever math student.

mmm yes I love math

you're gonna want to do pre cal first since it gives you the basics for trig

and trig builds on top of precal and it'll help you alot with derivatives and stuff in calc

not to mention at the school I go to ... they teach the precal stuff first ... then the trig comes later in the 2nd part of the class.

good luck ^_^

Doesn't your college have an advisor to help with this? Talk with other students in the department and while you are at it...Find out which instructors are good and which are the kiss of death.

Trig. And, remember ... you don't have to be the top math student to be the top TEACHER! Good luck.
