I heard it hardens the gums, only making teething more painful in the long run. Is this true?

No just don't over medicate her gums with it. Use a teething ring that can be frozen it does give some 'natural' release. If you think your baby is in alot of pain... see a Dr. to make sure. Give the baby a hug from me it will be over soon and a beautiful smile will emerge ... good luck!

I've never heard about it hardening the gums and I've known several babies that it's been used on. I'd go ahead and try it... If you're worried, just keep it for when your baby is having a lot of problems.

They also make those wonderful plastic water-filled toys that you can stick in the freezer and then give them to teethe on. I know those are very popular, as well as things like Zwieback toast and the hard baby bagels you can get in some stores.

Hope that helps a little.. and hey, the Orajel is tame compared to what went on when I was wee lol. My mum used to rub rum or a little whiskey on my gums when I was teething lol (naturally, I don't recommend booze for babies hehe... and they wonder why I like rum ;) )).

I used Baby Orajel on my daughter and it didn't seem to make teething more painful in the long run. I also gave her Baby Tylenol when teething was preventing her from sleeping.

no oragel is fine. it is also ok to give the baby some tylenol if teething is painful. I have three kids and have never heard of it making teething worse. Some babies cry when you first put it on though. Because it makes everything feel weird. If your concerned about how it feels put it in your mouth first.

My aunt is an LPN she said to use tylenol or ibprofen because orajel makes the pain come back worse..not sure if it hardens the gums..but it does make it hurt worse later...you can try putting a little tylenol/ibprofen right on the gums.

not as long as it is BABY Orajel. There is also a baby Anbesol try that!some babies get frustrated at the taste of it. You could try other things before giving the baby a medicine. Maybe teethers, my daughter loved to such on a wash cloth( Closely supervised of course) Good luck

I put Orajel on all three of my kids and would reapply until the Tylenol kicked in. They are all fine and the combination of Orajel and Tylenol helped us ALL get a good night's sleep. Good luck.

Give Hyland's Teething Tablets instead. They work MUCH better in my experience.

A cold stalk of celery is a GREAT teether.

Or put an ice cube into a baby safe feeder.

i am not sure if it is true, however they do make a specific orajel for teething babys, which i believe would not make it more painful because this would defete the purpose.

orajel just numbs the top layer of the gums. its the same stuff the dentist will use on you before he gives you a shot of the lovely numbing juice. Its not gonna hurt your kid.
