She might. She was exposed to the germs before you even knew you were sick. Breastfeeding will protect her, though, so she's less likely to be sick than if she weren't breastfeeding, and if she does get sick, she'll probably be *less* sick.

Yes, not from the breastmilk as it contained antibodies and such, but just from holding him and being around him. He got really really sick and ended up on antibiotics. When I first got sick, I had caught my older sons bronchitis virus, I called my doc and the receptionist told me not to come in because they couldnt give me anything because I was breastfeeding anyway so I specifically asked if my son could catch it from being so close to me while breastfeeding and she said absolutely not. Well, I got horridly sick and subsequently so did my son and I went into the doc and told him what his receptionist had said... she actually got fired for giving medical advice over the phone. He said it is a myth that your breastfeeding child can not get sick and also that I couldn't take antibiotics. He said had I gotten antibiotics from the onset of the cold we may have been able to prevent my baby from getting it. But, he was exposed during breast feeding because he was right there while I was coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose.. so he got sick big time. So, ya, baby wont get sick from your milk but can catch your cold just like anyone else can, and even moreso because they are infants and don't have an advanced ammune system like an older person would. Hope this helped!!

Your baby was exposed to the cold before you even had symptoms.

Your breastmilk contains antibodies to whatever you have that will help to protect your baby.

She will be less likely to get your cold since you are breastfeeding. Is she *does* get it, it will most likely be far more mild than the cold that you have.

Keep breastfeeding!

Many meds are safe for you to take while nursing. Medications and Mothers Milk is THE resource to know what is safe. DON'T go by the PDR, which is what most druggists and docs will check the drugs in. (ALSO....the Kellymom link below has a lot of info on meds and safety.)

Wash your hands a lot and try not to kiss all over the baby and everything will be fine!

BTW....if you have to take any decongestants, be careful as they can harm milk supply.

Not from breast milk... however the gentleman is correct about the medication. Beware of hidden drugs, that could be too strong for your child. Use the Similac till the cold is gone and resume breast feeding.

Best advice.. if you take something run it by the Dr or the pharmacist.. better safe than sorry..

Actually she is less likely to catch your cold if you are breastfeeding. Babies are suseptible to colds, just like anyone else. Colds are transmitted externally through mucus, saliva, etc. So, your baby is at risk to get your cold by the fact that she is in contact with you, just like anyone else would be. However, breastfed babies have an advantage in that the antibodies that your body produces to fight your cold ARE transmitted to her through your breastmilk. Thus, she gets the cold fighters in her body, before she ever comes into contact with the germ. That being said, she is less likely to catch the cold than if she wasnt breastfed because she wouldnt have that added protection.

yes she could catch it but not from your milk, but you body is fighting the cold and build an immunity to that strain and that immunity is being passed on to your baby. So the likely hood of your baby getting the cold from you is slim it is other peoples cold you should worry most about! as far as meds go if you stick with tylenol cold you should be good.

I had pink eye and the doctor went ahead and gave me a script for my baby saying he wold get it to. Breast feeding is by far the best thing you can do for your baby don't give up just for a cold.

No not from the breast milk she may catch it from you but since she is breastfeeding she should have a strong immune system.

my doc and lactation consultant said its the best time to feed the baby because they will get your antibodies. i made the mistake of asking the pediatrician and didnt breastfeed and almost dried up w/in 2 days time. it was hard to get the milk flowing back to how it was ever since then.
