I've been having some sleep problems because a dream that I've had at least three times keeps on my mind.

I'm holding onto my mother's hand and we're entering a gas station. All of a sudden, she gets angry with me, lets go of my hand, and walks faster into the gas station. But then a scary looking man comes out of the bushes and looks like he's about to grab me. I try to run to my mother, but I can't run - I end up running in slow motion. The scary looking man grabs me, and I start crying. My mother doesn't see me, and nobody helps me.

And then I wake up, heart pounding, mind numb, sweat covering my forehead and neck, and I feel like crying.

What does it mean? I've had this dream 4 years ago - and I remembered it all this time - and I had the exact same dream again!

I realize that there are probably no real dream interpreters on Yahoo! Answers, but please try anyway! (I want to go to sleep again.)

Let me analyze your dream

First of all, you may some unsolved issue when you were a child. Having dream like this may have something to do with your childhood.

Holding mom's hand = depending on, being cared of
mom = closer relationship
Gas station = place to fill up gas, fullfillment
Scary looking man = your fear of independent.

Your dream may indicate that you are depending on your mom or close relationship. Once your dependent leaves you, you will feel so helpless and perhaps scared. You project a scary looking man to tell you that you are afriad of something. That scary looking man may not be a real son. It could be just your fear. Your fear of being alone, fear of independent. You rely very much on your mom (again mom can be any of your close relationship), you feel a little insecure without someone supporting you.

Why do you have it 4 years ago, and you dream again. You may be stressed for some reason or It probably means that something or some words have triggered you subconsciously to dream that again. Having a recurring dream could mean there are some unresolved issues. Once that is resolved, that dream will no longer haunt you. In you case, it could be somebody you depend on leave you or some one you trust so much betrayed you. That is why you subconsciously vent it out in dream once again.

I could be wrong, but this is how I see from your dream

I had a reoccurring dream very similar and studied up on the meaning. Basically what is going on in your life. Do you feel your not in control? No matter how hard you try you can't get anywhere? This is something you have to do on your own and the man represents your fear whatever it may be that is holding you back. Your Mother doesn't help because it is something that only you can decide or fix. New Job opportunity, considering marriage, school maybe, the real question you have to answer those are the representations you have to look inside yourself for the problem and when you get over the fear and fix it the dream will go away too. 'good luck been there, done, that got that t-shirt and probably old enough to be your mom lol:-)

I would suggest writing down every significant feature of your dream. Every object or person that stands out to you as you think through it. Next, you need to realize that you are the only person in your dream. Your mother is not in it, the man is not in it, etc. Everything is a manifestation of you.
After you write down all the significant characters (i.e. you, your feet, your mom, the man, the gas station, etc), you have to do something weird. Go down the list and ask yourself how each think felt in the dream. What emotions, etc. Even the inanimate objects had feelings. "What was the gas station feeling? What did the bushes feel?" Ask this about every component of your dream and then look at your answers remembering that you are the only person in your dream, everything is a manifestation of you and your emotions.
After you've done all of this you may be able to understand it a little better.
P.S. if you have some good friends you can try an activity. Get them all together and assign them roles in your dream. One will be you, one your mom, one the man, one the gas station, one the bushes, etc. Then play through the dream telling them all how to act. This will give you a better understanding of the dream and also begin to allow you to take control of it.
These are just my ramblings, I wish you well.

It appears you have a fear of losing your mother and a fear of subsequent responsiblities and being alone.

It is quiet normal that you are going through this transistional period in your life. You are becoming an adult and you will start to become more inept to responsiblites in your life.

Your mother will not be around or will not be able to help you for alot of what you are about to experience in life.

Good luck and if your dreams become any more complicated or hard to understand, please let your mother know and to seek a counselor.

Seems to me to be about letting go of an ideal maternal set of rules that gave you security.
The man prob represents reality taking you from the safety of what you have always held dear into the reality of it doesnt work for you.
Hope this helps.

Your going through a stressfull time.. and it can also mean you are hiding something from either your mom or a mother figure in your life the running slowly it usually means it will take time to recover from whatever your going through or it will take time to get to the point you want to get to.

It sounds like you love your mom and worry that you'll have to leave her to marry a man you don't like. Almost like a visonary dream into your future ...
