I've just had the information through in the post - they are going to charge based on size and depth and weight. Why are they doing this? It is going to be a mega nuisance especially for businesses.

It's stupid - and then they say 80% of post won't be affected - that's because most post is generally that sort of size to keep its usual price. But what about businesses? My dad owns a bookshop and is constantly sending books around and outside of Britain - all shapes and sizes. The British postal service used to be praised by other European countries, but not any more because it's not as simple as sticking a few stamps on to be safe and putting it in the post box.
It will confuse so many people - Britons aren't all that bright, so let's hope people remember to put return addresses on their mail.
I hope it doesn't last, but frankly, I don't think it will.

Because they want to make more money. Not from the normal letters, but from the parcels.

Think about it, ebay has become so big now, that tens of thousands of parcels are being sent each day, now royal mail want to get in on the act, charge a little bit extra.

People use e-mail and the internet now so the amount of post has decreased also a lot of people use e-bay by putting the prices up like this they wont lose so much money but the service will be as appalling as ever

I'm in business and a lot of my postage is actually going down in price.
I think the principles of the changes are fair.

because they are getting greedy......it also has a lot to do with ebay....they know that e bay users need to use the post....so they put it up knowing they will pay the extra costs...there is also another thing to look at not only the price , we are going to have longer ques,as most post now will have to be weighed...

I would imagine documents will be folded to A6 instead of A4 size. As for parcels , you had to take them and get them weighed anyway. Not much of a difference in my humble opinion.
