Its traditional and stems from a time when 95% of painting was in white! So they wore white so the paint did not show up as much as if they wore blue denim! If you look at old pictures the houses are all white! White and Red were the cheapest and easiest colors to produce in those days! Thus, the houses were painted white and barns were traditionally red. You could paint your house red if you wanted everybody to think it was a house of ill repute!

As a painter myself ,the reason why white is worn by painters goes back to when houses were white washed with lime and water, both outside and inside houses, white coveralls were used so when you spilled it on them it could not be seen, the same reason why mechanics wore black coveralls, and people grinding barley wore brown coveralls.

Cause white is considered a "cooler" fabric to wear out in the sun when they are painting.

That's a great question. I guess no matter what color you wear, you're going to get paint on yourself, maybe white doesn't show up the paint as much.

so that they can see the paint color when it gets on their pants. it doesn't show up as well on dark pants. also, this shows their boss that they are working because they are covered in paint
