They should change the marketing to healty foods, especially choices for children.

Obesity is a huge problem, and fast food has a reputation of contributing to it. So, a good strategy would be to turn the perception that fast food is all fattening, and promote healty choices for parents for their children.

Along those lines I would eliminate "Super-Size" marketing. I would also eliminate the $1.00 menu items.

People already realize that Mc Donalds is cheap...so I would make prices higher by introducing more quality foods.

I would make the products "Fresh" instead of micro-wave everything.

The marketing mix consists of the four P's: product, price, promotion, position. Look at current trends in American diets. American's want to eat healthier but how do they do this when the average American worker has to work 45 hours per week, and fit family, continuing education, and recreation in as well? McDonald's should run with the idea of promoting healthy "on the go" items, and healthy items for kids as well. That takes care of the product part of the mix. McDonald's will have to do some pricing studies and experiments to decide how consumers will react to certain price changes in the product as well. The promotion aspect is the marketing vehicles they will use, such as commercials, print ads, guerilla marketing techniques etc. They may choose to hire a new advertising firm or change their ads to match a new target market. Position refers to how they will distribute their product, but this is the least likely to change because McDonald's is and always will be a fast food restaurant.

McDonalds is already hugely popular, so in order to build market share, I would not suggest too much change. Their advertising sucks, they should get a new advertising firm to handle their account. Introducting new menu items will usually spark some curiousity and should give profits a quick boost. I would not do away with any of their current items, because that could make their regular customers angry.
I would say change the advertising. They probably spend way more than they need to on that. Everyone already knows about McDonalds, it's not like I need a lame commercial to convince me to eat there.
