Do you have any suggestions for romance books that start out with 2 people, growing up, and falling in love with each other?

The Flambards, by K. M. Peyton. Set in England at the time of World War I, the book actually involves four young people growing up together (more or less), with love realized, then overshadowed by the war. Sad/happy. Ultimately realistic, but satisfying.

This is actually a series of books, and K. M. Peyton is a pseudonym for a husband/wife team of authors, Kathleen and Michael Peyton.

Some years back this was made into a BBC series, sorta like Masterpiece Theater, very popular.

Enjoy!

"Never Let Me Go" sort of fits that description, and it's the best book I've read in the last few years. By Kazuo Ishiguro. It's not really a "romance" book, per se, but it does have the two characters.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton has a couple that have known each other for over a decade--if not longer--family friends of sorts...the woman is best friends with his sister and has been her whole life. Anyway, it's by Julia Quinn...and it's very good.
