The newborn is the second child (both are girls) so the family already has all the essentials. It's okay if it's a little impractical or extravagant, since it's a gift from coworkers. I have $70 to spend, some of which should go to a token gift for the 2-year-old so she doesn't feel left out. I'm under extreme time pressure (my boss was supposed to do it but she ran out of time) so it needs to be easy to find---no online specialty stuff. Thanks in advance for any advice!

The coworker is the dad. None of us know the mom, so it would be strange to give her bath stuff, etc. And since it's an at-work baby shower, diapers (though I acknowledge they're useful) seem somewhat inappropriate, not to mention that I don't know what kind they want.
C'mon, this is the time for all the fun stuff you'd buy if it weren't so expensive. No practical gifts!

A cute stuffed animal, a print of her name and meaning, cute outfits are always nice. You could maybe get a big sister and baby sister outfit.

a moses basket, if they dont already have one. You can pick it up at babies r us for around 50 dollars, they are kind of like a bassinet, but you can carry them from room to room with you . Another idea might be matching footie pajamas for the older daughter and the newborn, this will get a lot of awwwws. And diapers are always good.

I would suggest diapers, wipes, or a gift certificate. A nice quilt for the crib or a crib set. Mothers always want a few new outfits even if they have some.

I would put together a basket of baby goodies - lotions, powder, onesies, pacifiers, some bubble bath and a candle for mom, and a toy or big sister shirt for the little girl.

I like the idea for doing something for the mom, a gift bastet for her with gift certificates for babysitting and dinner and mani/pedi or someone to make dinner or pick up groceries etc. with two children she will need help with this stuff and might not want to ask, she will feel appreciated knowing that you all care about her and her health, not just about the material things.

How about some books for BOTH girls to share. I just love sending books! Maybe one could be about jealousy or having a new baby in the family.

A teeshirt that says "I'm a big sister!" -- you can find it at most hospital gift shops or good baby shops.

AND a little tricycle - that way she can start to feel like a big girl.
