It's amazing how people will get the pet first and then read up on them. The gecko needs an excellent terrarium, the bigger the better. The entire wall of the bedroom will do. Be sure to feed the fellow. Few vets know much about reptiles, but you might luck out in your area. Ask the local pet stores.
A gecko needs to regulate his temperature by moving to cool and warm places. Geckos need excellent fresh live food, and a little sunlight. They are nocturnal and a black light is great to observe them.
Please read up on the gecko before you purchase. Build the habitat first. Running water is nice too. A terrarium with a little pool rocks and natural plants and water cycling through a filter.
Temperature is critical for geckos. Get several thermometers. One in the cool area and one in the warm area.
Stores keep geckos in very undesirable terrariums, so don't follow them. Keep the cage clean and have a temporary holding cage for him while you work on the terrarium. During the day a gecko likes a dark secluded place to hang out.
Good luck and smart to use the forums.

We had an entire clan of geckos living in a bunch of old asphalt a while back. It was pretty neat seeing twenty of them running around. I am sure there is a vet somewhere that will look at them not sure if there is one in your area.

Most likely, you will want to call and find a vet that specializes in herptology. Your vet can give it a general exam, but he is clueless as to specific lizard health.

Depends on the vet

you need to find a vet that specializes in reptiles because most regular vets don't see or know enough about reptiles. I know from experience.
