Giovanni has made some excellent points. It's the South, not exactly a hockey hotbed.
Yes, there are lots of semi pro hockey teams in the South, that work financially because small town drunks will pay $10 to go see pretty much any non woman's sport, but the NHL is too expensive for that crowd. Hockey works in towns like Dallas and Miami because many northerners have relocated to these big cities.
New Orleans is in the middle of hot hot football country, and yet the Saints struggled to sell tickets in recent years. Their basketball team did better in Oklahoma last year than they ever did in New Orleans in terms of fan support (fact is, the basketball team returning to New Orleans is 50/50 at best ... unless the Sonics, recently purchased by some Okahoma billionare, move to Oklahoma).
New Orleans is not a big city in terms of population, it is not a rich city, they don't support the pro teams they have now. No way does an NHL team work in Louisiana.

You're hilarious...NOT!
Let's see. Gators are found in Florida not Louisiana. The KKK...OK, just a few decades out of date. NASCAR--last I looked it branched from the Southeast and is now even running races in the Yankee north and did NOLA ever have a NASCAR race?
By the way, Lebanon and Israel do have minor hockey teams as anyone who knows of the work Roger Neilson used to do in that part of the world.
You are most definitely not the Last Comic Standing.

The simple answer is there are no business people in the area who are both wealthy enough and willing to commit to forming an expansion franchise. Convincing an existing franchise to relocate is far more difficult, and should never be relied upon.
The fact of the matter is, hockey is still a very limited market in the American South (especially relative to the infinitely more popular football and NASCAR), and, to resort to high-school level microeconomics, there simply isn't enough demand to warrant such a colossal investment.

They don't know the difference between an Red Line and a Tan line.
Nothing wrong with the Preds.
I quite like the Preds.
I enjoy watching Upshaw, and TooToo.
I was happy to find out that Jord signed his second NHL contract.
As for a team in Lebanon.
That would be funny and probably very violent.
But would anyone get out alive????

INSTEAD OF OCTOPUSES what are you talking about Detroit is one of the original six in the NHL, and with the new salary caps Winnipeg or Quebec will get hockey again and that's were it belongs not in the south.
and hockey is the second biggest and most played sport in the world their is teams in Lebanon and Israel even in Egypt, so get your facts straight before you say dumb ****.

Because right now New Orleans can't even support the teams they have already. Certainly they couldn't afford right now to have a new hockey team.
