It's fiction. Fiction opposes and supports nothing. It's made up which is why it's called Fiction. Even if it claims to be "based on facts" it's still fiction, still made up, and the only people who are concerned with whether or not it's blasphemy or anything else are probably people who have never even read the book for themselves. I am NOT a Christian in any way shape of form. I read the book, and the reason I don't like it is because it took an interesting idea and put it through the wringer of flat and uninspiring prose. What offends me about this book is the fact that it's so flat and uninspiring AND it's a best seller. There are better authors out there than the author who shall remain nameless here, and I take offence to the fact that HE can become a best seller whereas someone else who has done 10 times better than him remains in relative obscurity.

No, the Da Vinci Code is just a work of fiction. If you read Dan Brown's other books you'll see he hates the US governement, the CIA, NSA and NASA and anybody else or anything else connected to "the establishment".

It was a good book with an interesting plot. It was a fast read (meaning you didn't have to ponder the deeper meaning of things). It's totally unrealistic, but fun none the less.

I think it was a quick read, I do not think it was opposing the C Church at all, however, for the movie and the books success I think that the Author and producers of the movie made a big deal about it, meaning they created the media blitz or storm to get you into the movie house and buy the novel. They were hoping for the same result that Gibbson move the Passion created and praying for just a quarter of the profits. Didnt work. It was fiction, it was just what it was, make believe from anicent times.

I think it's challenging the catholic church, but not exactly opposing it. The only people really offended by the ideas in the book were the people who couldn't handle the idea of change, or the idea of being wrong.

But it really is only a work of fiction, so the only church it was opposing was the catholic church portrayed in the book.

Opinions are immunity to being told you're wrong.

The writing style of The Davinci Code is trite and formulaic.
It is very poorly researched on all areas that it touches upon. Be they religion, art, literature, secret societies, or even the French language and culture.
Most of it's key elements are stolen from The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail, which was written several years earlier.

Reading it would be a waste of time for any other purpose than to see what everyone is talking about, and perhaps as an interesting conversation starter. Just don't make the mistake I did and actually spend money on it, get it from the library.

Wikipedia has lots of good information for you on the topic:

i have'nt a clue if it is the truth or not, i should'nt think they would want it to be the truth, it would give women a feeling of more importance and power....they would'nt want that.

i don't see how the truth would be opposing the catholic church, unless the catholic church does'nt like the truth. but then, we have'nt established if there is any truth in it or not.

i always laugh at the pictures depicting jesus, he's always shown as a white skinned, fairhaired man, this just would'nt be so. he was a jew and would have been dark skinned with dark hair.

amazing how this vast catholic religion transpired from the teachings of a jew.

you know it really does'nt matter what you believe, it's how you live your life and treat the people you love, your family and close friends, charity and caring begin at home.

I don't think it's in opposition of the church, it's more like an eye opener into the way the church was formed, we tend to forget that 2000 years ago politics were just as a big deal as now and while the book is fiction...don't forget, the Bible is a book of events, a collection of tales, and it didn't appear magically from thin air...this seems obvious to me. It's quite possible 2000 years from now the bible will just be another book of myths. Maybe the church doesn't like people to be reminded of this fact

Wee I can't say that it is for the catholic church. It hits at it's heart and exposes a lot of things. But you have to keep in mind that it was all based on Dan Brown's interpretation of Leonardo Da vinci's work. Not set in stone.

I found the style difficult to read really, I mean it was a gripping fantastic story, but the writing left something to be desired in me. I struggled to finished the other one too, Angels & Demons.

The book is fiction. I'm not Catholic, so I can't answer that question.
