Do some people wait until they see their baby before they pick the name? When you are in the hospital how soon do you have to pick their name after the birth? I feel like when I have a baby I won't be able to name the child until I actually see her/him. Do some people do it this way?

Some people think that you can only pick a suitable name for a child once you see the baby. I am Native American and my grandmother believes that you should wait to pick a child's name untill you see it's personality.

Go into the hospital with a bunch of names that you like, and chose from them. Personally I chose all my childrens names ahead of time, but I know some people who wanted to see the baby before making the final choice.

Good Luck!

Yeah, you can wait as long as you want! I wanted to see my baby before we decided on a name. We didn't fill out the birth certificate information until a week after he was born!

I think it's best to do it this way, I mean, can you really give a person a name that fits them if it's been MONTHS before you see them? I don't think so.

With our last son me and my husband could not decide on a name but once we saw him we both agreed.
My cousin is 28 now but her mom left the hospital without giving her a name. She named her baby almost a week after delivery. My aunt keeps saying she wanted her to have the perfect name.I just think you cant apply for a social security number until you name the baby.

There is no time limit. I've heard that some people went a few months before finally naming their child.
Take your time. Just not TOO much time. haha!
I thought about my baby's name when I was 15. I always knew what I wanted to name my children.

some people do...I won't ...I'm having a handful of names picked out and whatever seems to suit him best is the one I'll go with..

Just watch out...I have a friend who did that and couldn't make up her mind and had the kid for a week and a half before the NICU nurse finally named him.

And the kid before that was named by someone here at the office...

Pick out some names, and make a decision....

I debated for about 5 days whether to name my son Jake or Lee...Lee Charles won out in the end; I think you may have to do it before you leave the hospital now; I once knew someone who never named their child....so her birth certificate says "Baby Hack"; they called her "Babe" or "Baby"...obviously...and you're right...I think you should take a bit of time, but get the discussion done about name choices (say, 5 each for girl/boy)...and just do it! But remember...they're going to have to live with it your whole life...

I went through and picked out a few I liked but didn't make the final decision until my daughter was born. We had it narrowed down to two - Madilyn or Kylie, and as soon as I saw her I just knew that she was a "Kylie". But I was glad that I had researched and picked some out beforehand so I wasn't scrambling to find a name.

We named our daughter 1 day after she was born. We just couldn't decide. I am really glad we waited because I don't think any other name would fit her now.
