When my daughter- in- law announced that her child would have an Irish name, I looked on a website for Irish baby names and sent her about 12 names of each gender. Cammy was listed in the female list. She now wants the meaning of it, and I can't find it anywhere...Anyone help?

Cammy is a pet form of "Camilla", which in turn is a female version of "Camillus". "Camilla" was the name of a legendary warrior maiden of the Volscians, as told by Virgil in the 'Aeneid'. "Camillus" is a Roman family name, which is sometimes claimed to mean "attendant at a religious service" in Latin, but may actually be of unknown Etruscan origin.

CAMERON: Old English for "bent nose." Don't be put off by its orginal meaning; this is a beautiful name. Relatives: Camm, Cam, Cammie, Camyron. Namesakes: Cameron Mitchell, John Cameron Swayze, Richard Cameron.

It is short for Cameron. The name itself sadly means "bent nose" in gaelic.
