Let's say both married partners work. One earns about $50,000 more than the other a year. They file jointly at tax time. When the refund comes, the "breadwinner" feels he is entitled to the complete refund. They request the refund be directly deposited into one's checking account, and the lower earner decides to keep half the refund. The breadwinner accuses the other of stealing his/her money! Is this nuts??

Yes. It isn't about who makes what in a marriage. It's about being equal. You should each get a portion of the refund and save the rest. People have enough money related stress in marriages without creating artificial stress about spliting a refund.

WOW... that is crazy. Is your husband an ****** or really possessive? As mentioned above by the others, marriage should be sharing of everything and give/take/compromise relationship. Accusations such as stealing, especially by the spouse, can lead to resentment and retaliation.

I bet he made you sign a prenup.

Theft doesn't exist in a marriage.....

Sounds like there are other underlying issues at hand; seek counseling!
