What happened to Andy Roddick?
Hmm. First of all Roddick has got an awfully one sided game. It has a lot of Power; but simply 'just power'. Roddick's game is very easy to figure out and once you've done that any guy even ranked in the 100s can beat him. He needs to mix it up and not just rely on his serve(which used to be great a year back but now even his greatest weapon has turned him down) and his forehand. He should try to improve his net game and also court coverage.
I also doubt Roddick's mindset and attitude towards tennis. He has been straying away from it(the whole Sharapova dating thing). I am not against tennis players having girlfriends but all the publicity isn't going to help his game one bit. Roddick has also been plagued by injuries(not his fault). Moreover guys with Federer at the top and guys like Nadal, Blake etc I doubt Roddick will ever win another grand slam or even get to no1. His firing of Brad Gilbert and hiring Dean Goldfine hasn't done him good either. But there are positive signs for him- like hiring of Jimmy Connors as coach, reaching and losing a very close final to Blake etc.

I really wish him good luck for the future AND HOPE HE WINS MANY MORE G.SLAMS(HIGHLY UNLIKELY).

Haha, Roddick is so humorous. I really want him to beat Murray; however, Murray's become a great player/contender in the game of tennis. I think Murray will win a tight match, but you never know! Roddick might pull a shocker. He's one of the few Americans that are left in tennis, so GO ANDY!!!! Roddick.

O.K.

The key point to read here is that andy rodDICK sucks....he always has and always will! Sure, he may have been number one in the world, but that was when he didn't have the competition of high flying Federer, and the raging bull Nadal.

Andy's serve and forehand are by far his strong points, but his backhand and volleying make me turn my head. That is why he is so inconsistent. But yeah, he has hired Jimmy, and that will be key to him regaining future confidence. I feel that this weeks Roger's Cup in Toronto is going to be huge for him. Do well, and he will carry that success on into the U.S. Open. Do poorly, and well....he'll continue on a downward spiral.

And by the way it is Andy Murray.... that hired Brad Gilbert...nice try though!

People are realizing what I have seen for years. James Blake is the best American tennis player. Andy Roddick is a thing of the past.

i've never been a roddick fan, but he finally did something that might actually turn him around - he hired brad gilbert. now i don't know if gilbert can get roddick to work on his weak points (and he a number of them), or simply get him to work harder, but if roddick sticks with him and listens to him he will get him to play MUCH smarter tennis.

so if gilbert is still with roddick in 12 months then i'd be pretty suprised if roddick wasn't well on his way to number 1 by then. but we shall see.

EDIT: hehehe, yep, i don't know why i had gilbert on the brain. connors it is.

Since I have been attending the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in DC, I saw Roddick hitting on the practice courts. He looked pretty bad. He with drew for a muscle strain.

He is back and trying hard. James Blake, Nadal and others are giving him a run for his money but he is working at it. He has hired Connors as his coach that is the LATEST news from Roddick.

P.S: he is rumored to be dating Maria Sharapova.

He hired Jimmy Connors, not Brad Gilbert. He fired Gilbert like 2 years ago. After that US Open loss in the first round to Gilles Mueller his career took a huge demise. I am a huge Roddick fan and love him to death, but I dont know if he will ever return to form. he was so down on himself after losing that match. then the criticism came and it was hard to deal with that. he claimed he was in the best shape of his life before that US Open and he bowed out in the first round. that destroyed his confidence and his mental toughness that gilbert gave to him. he should've stuck with gilbert, but connors is good also. he did bow out to the runner up in the australian open however in 2006, which was marco baghdatis. the french open was the same even though he was playing on a bum ankle. wimbledon was extremely disappointing. he had so many chances to beat murray and couldnt pull the trigger. he lost all of his confidence. i hope he gets back on track and gains it back during the summer. if connors works with him, he could be a real contender at the US Open. only time will tell, but i hope he gets back to the top. Maybe Mandy Moore was his good luck charm.

And if he is banging Sharapova, then more power to him. She is one fine broad. Maybe she can help him with his tennis and in the bed.

I think that after the U.S. Open Mojo commercial, everything like fame went to his brain. One thing that everyone who playes Andy can do is break down his game by making him come to the net, and making EVERYTHING go to his backhand side. He has a huge surve and forehand. All Andy needs to do is have a better backhand, backhand volley and an attitude and he will be the next Roger Federer!

I think Andy Roddick is not mentally tough. He looses concentration and his temper very easy.
