I had a terrible terrible year april 2004- july 2005 - horrendous. I won't go into detail as dwelling on it is one of the things i avoid. (But my Dad was the innocent victim of robbery and murder)
I got through it by deciding to.
A few months after it happened I didn't care less whether or not i lived or died, apart from the fact it would upset other people, people who were also very upset ( but i certainly wasn't suicidal) I knew very early on after a massive tragidy in my life, that i had only two choices. Let what happened ruin the rest of my life, or live my life better and harder than ever. I am really grateful for all i have, i don't worry too much about silly things. I believe now that good luck is with me and things go my way, i am positive and i realise how fragile and short life can be and how so many things do not matter. I know my Dad would be proud on the way I have got through it and I find happiness and joy in loads of things ( although when it happened i never believed i would ever again) You have just got to be determined not to let evil win. It hasn't won.... I have. :)

please don't pick me as best answer, i don't like to gain anything from my Dad's death and getting points for this answer would make me feel like i'd somehow used the story for my own benifit.
Good luck with whatever it is you are going through. But try hard to just say, that is enough, today is a new day, here we go! Don't look back in ten years time and think, oh i sort of wasted a big part of my life feeling unhappy, i wish i hadn't. Do things you enjoy smile a lot , laugh alot. Love who you are. xxx

I'm trying to figure out which time was the worst time, as I've had several bad times in my life. I'm no model theist, but since I was a teenager, I've been drawn toward God (I'm now 37), so when bad times come, I turn toward God. Since I'm far from the model theist, I don't always gravitate toward God when things initially go bad, but at some point I do finally. After that point, even if the situation at hand is still really bad, I can get through it better when I to God.

I have depression, so for bad times, I also seek a Dr's care and therapy. I see a psychiatrist because I may need more depression medication, as this happened earlier this year. He suggested the most WONDERFUL outpatient program called IOP - Intensive Outpatient Program. I tell you, it worked WONDERS!!! The Dr gave me a stronger dosage of medication, so when that finally started kicking in, life felt good again. It was such a RELIEF to wake up in the morning and not automatically feel doom. The thought can still bring me to tears.

Praying, reading scripture and other spiritual books, family, friends, doctors, therapy, physical exercise, getting enough sleep, eating well, drinking plenty of water, reading, journaling, meditation, vitamins.... lots of ways to get through a bad time.

By comming to the realisations :
1. The only constant in life is change.
2. Suicide is not a soulution.
3. Taking responsibility for and deciding my situation was a result of my own choices.
4. Taking a close look at myself and deciding what is was in life I really wanted and taking the steps to get it.
5. Being optomistic and focusing on the best case scenerio instead of the worst case.

Hi, i got through by doing whatever i had to do to survive, although sometimes i didn't want to but i thought of my family and new i had to hang on in there...i cried a lot and went out for a drive and got my anger out by just speaking out how i was feeling, it helps to get it out rather than keep it inside...i phoned the samaritans which didn't help, not their fault they do great work, i prayed and hung on, then i told a friend and she understood and then when i told two other friends we all found we were feeling the same way....it's wise to choose the right person to tell because someone who hasn't been where you are can make it worse and add to the pain you are already going through. I tried a herb called st john's wort but it didn't help, was scared to take anti-depressants but i know they can help some people. I read a self help book called " the road less travelled " by Scott Peck and the first sentence in the first chapter he says LIFE IS DIFFICULT and reading that helped me to see we all have trials. The book did have a lot of funny moments just like life, and i'm still here and i've discovered things about myself i really like because a spiritual awakening isn't religion it's about finding out who God has created you to be...it's good that people here are willing to share their experience...their are a lot of good answers...best wishes...Shalom, and all that it means.........

By waking up every morning, breathing in and out, and getting through the day as best i could. I always kept it in my mind that there was light somewhere at the end of the tunnel, and although life felt really difficult at the time, i knew it wouldnt last forever.

Hey man, I had a conversation with myself: "get serious, get practical, do what it takes to survive. Let's see how I can overcome this block and move on. After all, what I only and really need is food, water, air and sleep/shelter. The rest is extra." That's the way my dialogue went throughout the hard times, and guess what? I made it through, and you can, too! Great question! Thanks.

firstly ignore the religious types, they take advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable state.next,do not be too much of a burden on your friends, you'll need them later.next, only you can change your life you must set yourself a target of where you want to be with your life and really try to achieve that target,if it goes a bit off track don't worry at least your trying and you can be proud of that.if someone has hurt you remember living well is the best form of revenge.good luck and take care.
