Choko, capsicum, tomato, carrots, red lettuce, endive, kale, parsley, broccoli, cauliflower, grapes, corn on the cob, sweet potato, apple, brussel sprouts, celery, fresh grass (not from beside a road, or treated with chemicals), water cress, pumpkin, parsnips.
Other foods your pigies may enjoy are rolled oats, puffed corn.

His primary feed should be timothy hay (alfalfa isn't good for him to have all the time, because it's too high in calcium, but you could use it for a couple of weeks in a pinch and it's easier to find than straight timothy.) If you know anyone who raises horses or other livestock, you could ask for a flake of hay. Even a half flake will last a long time for a single guinnea pig.

His secondary feed should be guinnea pig pellets (which are between $2 and $3 a bag at Wal-mart.) Don't buy pellets that are not **exclusively** for guinnea pigs, they're not nutritionally balanced for them and you'll shorten the life of your cavy. If he's getting enough hay and supplemental fresh feed, you don't have to supply pellets.

Fresh fruits and veg high in vitamin C (oranges, fresh spinach leaves, cilantro, dandelion greens, etc.) should be supplemented daily. Cavy's can't manufacture their own vitamin C, so it has to come from fresh fruit and veg and cannot be skipped. If you're giving him lettuce, it should be leaf lettuce, the darker green the better -- iceberg or other head lettuce isn't good for him, just fills his belly and doesn't provide any of the nutrients he needs. You may as well feed him styrofoam.

If you're really desperate and you don't spray your lawn with any chemicals and you're sure that no other animals pee or leave droppings on your lawn, you could feed him an all he can eat supply of sun dried grass clippings for a few days in place of the hay and for his vitamin C supplement, use fresh picked and washed dandelion leaves and stems. (NO buttercups, daisies, ivy, evergreen plants of any kind or rhubarb, they're deadly poisonous to guinnea pigs.)

No money for guinea pig food?! It isn't that expensive- buy the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart! Otherwise, just about any veggies can be tried- celery, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots... but if you can't afford guine pig food, I don't see how you could afford fresh veggies.

Dandelion greens from the yard are good, too... just BE SURE there are no pesticides on them, and wash them REALLY well.

1st of all if you can't afford it you shouldn't have it! ummmm i have 2 and they love grass , hay, dandilions and dandilion leaves ,carrots, watermelon, plaintains, bread, grapes, fruits n veggies, spinach, etc.especially grass though make sure its clean and no animals have peed on it or something if it looks nice it should be fine, i give mine a big pile in the morn and another in the eve. try to avoid any weird lookin leaves cuz some stuff is poisonous to them. apples apple skins oranges HAY so um a small box of pellets is like $3.50 or so at the supermarket, take back some bottles and cans to scrape up some cash for it ask a close family or friend to borrow $ try a lemonaid stand SOMETHING i mean, come on go sell something at a paun shop SOMETHING cuz he can get sick if he goes for too long without. he'll need the nutrients found in the food to fight off disease they really need vitamin C so citrus fruits are good. good luck

No hamster food!!! That has seeds in it, which can cause tooth problems for pigs. No celery, either. The strings in the celery tend to get stuck between their teeth and cause chewing problems. Feed them parsley, romaine lettuce, carrots, and apples if they like apples. If you have a good source of pesticide-free grass, pull up many handfulls of grass and give that to them in place of hay until you get paid.
