When I was little I was afraid of the "Monster in my closet so I closed the door every night. Now even though I'm older and know there is no "monster in the closet I still can't sleep if the closet door is open. Am I strange?
I know there is not such thing as a "Monster" Bu now I can't sleep if it is open. And I was wondering if this is strange since I'm 24

If that's your only problem (which I doubt), just have your closet remodeled and lighted so you can see into every part of it at all times. Otherwise, get a good referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist to find out what the closet really represents for you. And - no - you are not strange - life is scarey. We all have these phobias.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I had a monster in my closet as a child and I swear, he's still there.... I think there's also one under my bed so I never sleep with any part of my body hanging off the side. BTW, I'm turning 30! You're not alone!

No. You're just use to closing your closet door all the time. Everyone is strange in their own way, so you should be happy that you do something that is pretty normal.

It's probably just become habit for you. I started sleeping with a fan on a few years ago and now I can't sleep if it's too quiet in my room. I need the background noise. Sleeping with the door closed has just become part of your routine. It's hard to break habits like that.

This is a habit that can be broken simply by deliberaltly leaving the closet door open. Eventually when nothing happens the spell will be broken.

No- it's not strange. In fact it's quite sweet. You need a man to cuddle up to at night. To keep the monsters away.

No, you are not strange.
Over the years you have built a habit of having to have the door open when you were a kid. Its more of a "mental" problem. What you have to do is "train" your body to sleep with the door shut. It's like a kid trying to stop sucking his thumb.

no you are not strange...this kind of fossilisation is not uncommon when there is no affective feeling attached to the resolution of such a phobia. A little bit of self-talk and exposiing your fear to trusted ones will surely help alleviate such discomfort. Good luck!!
