I have cable internet, so my IP address is always the same. If I release my IP, then renew it, it's still the same.

How do I change it?

Often, the lease is assigned to you by your ISP and doesn't expire for several hours (or possibly even days). If you turn off your cable modem overnight, then you may be assigned a new IP address. The longer you wait, the better your chances of someone else on their system being assigned your IP address.

Go to a command prompt, and type ipconfig /release.

Power down your computer & cable modem.

Push the reset button of your cable modem.

Disconnect your cable modem for a few hours - overnight.

The dhcp server will see that your old ip address is available, and give it to the next request. When you reconnect your gear, the dhcp server should give you the next available ip address.

go to your IP config page, by opening a browser, and typing in 192.168.0.1. thats usually the default number, but if it's not, then look under your router for it.

type in admin for the user name, and leave the password blank. look around for "settings", and look for IP. say the last two number are ".8", change that to ".1" or ".5". any thing 0-9.

not all router config pages are the same so i cant say in detail how to change it.

Turn off your computer, then turn off your modem. Wait a few minutes, turn it back on. You MIGHT get a new address.
