Something exists all right using the five sensations. But if there's evidence of its being, then it exists. Or if the mind accepts its existence even without a physical form, then it exists. Think of virtual reality.

The question is an error.

We say no more about an object when we say that it 'exists'. Existence is not a property that an object has.

A car can be red, a metre and a half long. But exist, no. All I refer to when I say something exists is that it has sense-data that I can pick-up through my senses. Beyond that I can have no further evidence.

To say something exists, or is, may not be true indeed.

But what does it mean to actually say that it is? I would agree with Heidegger in the sense that to say something is, means that at least we exist. He goes on further to mean that the meaning of existence for man to beg the question "can something come from nothing?"

we generally don't unless we can interact with it. as christopher columbus would have travelled the oceans not knowing if he would find land. until we can acknowledge it and understand it, many things are invisible to us. gasses for example. gravity-=we see the effect only. we have enquiring minds and senses over and beyond. there is still more for us to learn. once we can discover a reusable power source much of the worlds problems will be null and void.
