Hey, I live in the south, deep down in the heart of Texas and I remember when we had no team, it was horrible. All I ever wished for was for us to get a team and when we did they turned out to be amazing. There is NOTHING wrong with the south having a team? What are you jealous that they don't suck because it is the south? I don't get why it matters?

Because fans show up to watch it. You lump the entire South together. Where was the largest crowd ever to watch an NHL game? Tampa Bay when they played at the Thunderdome. Who plays to well over 97% capacity--the Lightning.

Dallas is a HUGE success--building full, a Cup and another Final.

The 'Canes have improved a lot attendance-wise. Not great in reg. season (great in the playoffs though so maybe they'll take off like TB did).

You can't hit a home run with every market. In 1993 thru 1996 Florida drew well. They suck now and draw flies.

Anyway, the South has way more minor league teams too historically (you've seen Slapshot I'm sure...last I looked Charlestwon is in the South).

Basically, the South has hockey because the NHL saw them as good markets. They have the population base unlike many northern cities. I'll admit some choices are weird (Atlanta getting a seond go-round has been a flop and Phoenix still is not drawing...Nashville has hit the wall after a great start) and I'd prefer to see hockey in Winterpeg and Quebec BUT one HUGE drawback for Winnipeg at least, it was the city no player seemed to want to get traded to. Sad but true.

Why does Canada have the CFL? Most Canadian high schools don't offer football as a sport, so what's the point of having an entire football league when everyone there lives and breathes hockey?

hockey is not just a northern sport anymore. the league puts teams in big market towns in hopes of bringing good crowds of fans. some of these southern towns have fans who are northerners. the fans are not all ignorant about the game of hockey. why do northern people like nascar? all sports are not northern or southern anymore. i have no problem with the southern people loving hockey becuz it should not matter where hockey is played.

Why is major league baseball is in Toronto? Why does Minnesota have an NBA team? Why is there an NFL team in Phoenix? Not because of tradition. Massive internal migration within North America, and the televising of games, has created large sports fan bases in most big cities.

Here is my answer to the last time you asked this:

What is it with your fixation with outlawing hockey in the south. teams seem to be doing extremely well in markets such as Dallas, LA, San Jose, Anaheim, Florida etc. With good crowds, decent hockey, why wouldn't they play in these cities?
