It depends on the person and their situation. Everyone is different. You can take three rape victims for example. Sad, yes, but I'm trying to make a point. The first rape victim may be devistated about the whole thing for many years after it happens, thinking they're weak because it happened but still meeting new people and befriending them. They're usually the person to realize how strong they've always been. Person number 2 may get cold and shun out everyone from the world, but moving on none the less becaue they believe what doesn't kill them makes them stronger. They didn't kill themself but is shunning out the people you know, meet, love, used to care about, and everything of the sort, really living? Person number three kills themself thinking no one will ever love them. It depends on the person you are much more than the circumstance of the bad thing happening.

The older you are the more sense it makes. Life is not a bowl a cherries and with age you get thicker skin. Many things that made you mad or hurt you in your 20's, 30's, 40's etc. makes you laugh when you think about it now. Don't take life so serious that it kills you. Most of the things you worry about end up being total BS when you back at them.

I'm living proof, what didn't kill me opened my eyes to how strong I am. I always thought I was weak. But, in the winter of 2003/2004 I almost died, minutes away from death. I fought back, HARD, not to die. And really wasn't aware of it at all because I was in a coma.

What doesn't kill you makes you realize how STRONG you really are.

if you survive enough hardships or hurdles in life and came out unscathed;you become stronger because of it. Your next question has an entirely diff meaning: Because of trials and tribulations and difficulties in life makes you realize that you were strong all along that your convictions and strengths were just put to test. This is inspite of it. A manner of variations in wording puts a phrase in an entirely diff connotation. I was writing a reply
before the other replies. Thought mine would be the first. wanted it to be original.

I think what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I am stronger now because certain things happened in my life and I survived them and I know I am stronger than i was before;)

Yes unless its a heart attack which you survive...That doesn't make you stronger :) - so there are contradictions to all truths. But emotional hurdles prepare you better for the next bump in the road.

Also, when something could have killed you but doesn't it doesn't make you realize how strong you were and are, but how 'lucky'.

Sometimes it may work that way, but most of the times, what does kill you will make you more susceptible the next time or weaken you to the point it could kill you the second time.

It's "What doesnt kill you makes you stronger" I remember it from my class yesterday. It means that everything that you experience makes you stronger so you know what to do the next time.

Nonsense. Having a series of mild heart attacks certainly does not make anyone stronger. It's called Congestive Heart Failure.
