I'm ok with the 11 oz racquet that I use now, will an 11.4 oz be too heavy?

An 11.4 oz racket can actually be harder to swing than an 11 oz racket. You might be thinking well how can this be when one racket is .4 oz heavier-- well in tennis we use a term called swingweight. Swingweight measures the weight of the racket during play. It is determined by how the weight of the racket is distributed. That is why we have terms like Head-Light, Head Heavy, and Even balance. Swingweight can be increased in many ways even with lighter frames. Examples would be Larger Head size, more main and cross strings, and the one that will surely add to swingweight and that is the length of the racket. If you are playing with an extended racket of say 27 1/2 inch or 28 inch, it will almost certainly have a higher swingweight than its 27 inch long brother. Most advanced players tend to prefer a slightly heavier racket because the frame will help transfer a little more energy to the ball and reduce the shock to your arm slightly. Other factors that cause shock to your arm include the rackets stiffness index, the construction materials used in the frame and the handle, an also the type of tennis ball used. A Pro-Penn or Tennis Masters series ball will cause more shock to your arm than its lighter cousin the Penn Championship ball. If you have other questions send me an email

weight does matter because it can affect your arm in the long term.
but you want to play with the heaviest racquet you can handle.
by this i mean a racquet that won't slow your swing.
having a heavy racquet is good too for 2 reasons:
- the heavier the more power you'll get
- the heavier the less shock you feel

so it is really your call, play with what feels right to you.

If you're on Yahoo! Answers asking then yes. You'll feel hardly any difference and it won't affect your game. Buy the racquet and have fun!
