I have no idea on where to categorise this question

Can anyone suggest any techniques or websites for haggling to get things cheaper.
I recently tried to haggle with a shop assistant and fell flat on my face.
Any answers appreciated

You have to have confidence in yourself first. Decide what price you want to pay, and offer nothing more than that. The best haggler walks away and doesn't purchase if it's not at the right price. Consumers forget that they have the power, NOT the seller.

Have you tried Ebay or Amazon? Frequently you can find really nice things very much cheaper than buying them retail. Another suggestion is go to Mexico. You can buy jewelry there much cheaper by haggling. They actually expect tourists to do that and are disappointed when they don't.

It's not always easy to get discounted merchandise just by requesting it in a shop, but sometimes you can find a slight flaw in something that warrants the shop owners to reduce the price somewhat. Meantime, go to Google and type "Haggling" in the search bar. Who knows what you might come up with? Good luck!

Dont haggle...you live in England, not Iraq. Gentlemen dont haggle, they shop around, getting value for thier pound.
If you must negotiate, dont insult peoples intelligence with cockney cheekiness (bullshi.t) but be honest, if you have seen it cheaper, say so with facts, ask if they can compete, on the same terms, because your there, its simply easier to deal with them, now, but be prepared to genuinly go for the other deal, and explain why. Dont compare dodgy internet prices with a high street shop, with a physical address to take it back to...its not the same deal! Politeness, honesty...No one can argue with that.

I'm no good at that, but I don't like being told a price and when I go to pay they say more... for 2 euro I left everything on the stall, and as new buyers arrived I told them that he was a "smart ***", so they didn't buy anything either. I done my shopping on the stall next to his, and when I had finished I passed by and just gave him a big smile... He was biting his balls!

£50?
what do you want £50 for £40 is no good to you even if you knocked a tenner of you'd still be robbing yourself at £25.
you seem like a reasonable bloke who's happy with twenty quid, so I'll give you a tenner and risk being bit. alright ?
wo wo wo! didn't notice the scratch.
You give me a tenner and I'll take it away

ok, if you must... I only haggle in UK at boot sales. General rule.... Start at one third of the price....then, they drop the asking price...you offer more, etc.

Just ask-

"What is the very lowest you would except"

Then offer them that.

It works every time but not with houses.

Say you've seen it elsewhere for cheaper, if they then say "Well buy it from there" then go somewhere else and try again.
