Has anyone noticed that it’s been awhile since any really good films were released? If you look at the annual revenue report for the American film industry in the past and contrasted it to that of the more resent years there is quite a significant difference for the worse. Does anyone have any theories why?

People don't feel they are getting value for their money:
- Going to the movies has become extremely expensive as salaries in the middle and lower classes start to get behind from the higher classes.
- Whith all the DVDs and home theaters people prefer the comfort of their own homes to take a gamble on a theater where you don't know if the person sitting behind you decides to hold a tele-conference on his mobile phone.
- Theaters and studios pushed too far for mediocre low risk, high-revenue films and people are getting fed up with rubbish. The best films are being produced by independent studios who find it difficult to get distribution in suburban multi-plexes.

Studios say that they need several high profit films to compensate for the few artistic, higher quality films. I think the ratio has not changed, just the amount of films in general.

Hollywood scripts are focus grouped to death. There's a belief that if the "dumbest kid in a mall in arkansas" doesn't understand the film, then they're losing money, so films are so diluted, there's nothing good left.

Go see independent movies. They are generally much better than the crap that Hollywood puts out.
