1. The first thing you need to do is control your diet.

Eat in the morning - within the first hour. This should be your biggest meal. This gets the metabolism up and running for the day.

Don't eat right before bedtime. All you will do is store it. Some recomend four hours before bedtime.

2. The next thing to do is to exercise. Ideally this is in the morning after you've digested your breakfast. Of course in this busy world it may not be possible at that time, but morning is best.

3. Sleep. Without effective sleep, your metabolism is shot. If you have one of dozens of sleeping disorders, try to take care of it. The most common problem is sleep apnea, which robs you of remaining in a deep restful sleep, and unfortunately the problem is cyclical. The more weight, the worse the sleep apnea is, making the sleep period less effective and bottoming out your metabolism, which in turn causes more weight gain.

I hope this helps.

Some of the tips for increasing metabolism or metabolism boosters are given below:

Some over the counter pills for speeding up the metabolism are available that contain animal thyroid. YOU SHOULD NOT take these products as these may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc

Be physically active. In an activity like walking, bowling, dancing or playing golf, the energy you expand is greater if you have more weight to move around. A 140 pound man who walks 3 miles in an hour burns 220 calories as compared to a person of 110 pound, who burns only 180 cal going the same pace.

You are pretty much stuck with your metabolism rate, however you can increase it by a little but not drastically.
The best way is to eat lots of small meals instead of a few big ones throughout the day because it encourages your metabolism to work more often. Also exercising will help to increase your metabolism as well.

Any sort of exercise will boost your metabolism, but what really gets it up and keeps it there is adding muscle mass. Strength training will increase your muscle mass, which increases your metabolism overall. Running will boost it a lot for a period of time, and then after a bit it will jump back down to normal. A combination of both at least three times a week, combined with proper diet (sugars give you a high for a little bit, but then you sink way down below normal) and you're good to go.

Eat several small meals a day, as apposed to a few big ones, it keeps your digestion running all day, and doesnt overload it.

The best way to increase metabolism though is lifting weight. Doing cardio and such will burn fat but weight lifting and resistance training create muscle and muscle burns fat, it's like a machine that's on in your body. Most women avoid it because they don't want ti bulk up, but a good fitness rountine must have it. If bulking up is a worry just do more reps of a lighter weight.

increase your heart rate.... that's all... and then it will speed up your metabolism for a few hours, and then you gotta do it again.... for loosing weight it's a good idea to do something in the morning and something in the evening... like jog or brisk walk in the a.m. and swim or bike in the p.m. but you gotta be pushing yourself a little and not wussing out...
