In the case of Germany and the Nazi revolution yes I would do everything I could to get my family out and keep myself out of the war. When it come to the Lt that said no to the war in Iraq? I truly don't believe it was because he had strong feelings against it, more that he just didn't want to risk his life. I am no positive that this war was completely justified but the USA isn't setting up camps where we torture and perform experiments on people just because of their race, religion, or country. We are fighting what our leader believes is terrorism. He may have been wrong but we are there and are trying to rebuild the nation and make it better. So why not go? If I am still fighting for freedom I will fight to my death.

I think if you truly opposed the war, versus just found it inconvenient or dangerous, then I agree with not serving. Immoral wars should be opposed- and never started in the first place.
I think it is a more interesting question, however, when the same issue comes up for those who enlisted in the military before a war and now are saying they don't want to serve. Now what do you do?

According to the Nuremburg Trials (sp?) if a Soldier commits war crimes, regardless of what their country's law says; then they are equally guilty as the country they serve in those crimes.
I have a strong religious belief against military action, and would have to seek a deferral (sp?) because of them. I am appalled by war and would never fight in war, because all wars are fought for greed. God doesn't justify wars and hasn't since Christ ascended into heaven. I just can't kill someone because they wave a different flag or worship a different deity than I.

If I was a German drafted into the wermacht in the thirties or forties, I would absolutely go willingly so that the Gestapo would not come and kill my family. Furthermore, it is the duty of all combatants, no matter the nationality, to stave off invasion and destruction of their homes for as long as possible. BTW, Hitler was a turd!

I would. Good, bad or indifferent, this is my country and I will fight for it. Many Germans felt the war was right for them. They were unaware of what was really happening.

Definitely not! I would try to appeal for "conscientious objector" status. Of course, since I'm a girl, I couldn't get drafted anyway.
