Should you confront your boss about this? What steps should be taken? if any. and prevention in the future?

Sure, confront him with it. If nothing else, it would be nice to see how he reacts.

I would say something like (1) here is what I observed, (2) this is the logic behind my concern, (3) this is how it makes me feel, (4) I'd like your perspective on the issue.

I think this will help you determine the most appropriate path to take. You should follow your gut, but play to win. In other words, if the result of your conversation infuriates you, there are really only three appropriate things you can do: (1) go back to work and forget about it [gasp!], (2) go to the guy's boss and repeat your complaint as outlined above, or (3) start looking for another position. Anything else is counterproductive.

Just dont say anything but next time he asks you to do a report, say that you'll only do it if you get the credit. You didn't like what happened last time. He has a lack of respect for you. Deal with him as you would with anyone who has a lack of respect for you.

Yes you take credit for it..........Take a shot and go over his head. Hey you may lose your job but i feel it is better to keep your dignity and credibility.
