98.6 is average, but that's "average".
some people run low, some people run high.
i always run around 97.5 or so. if my temp is 98 or 99 i have a fever.

98.6 is "average" but everybody is different if you want to find out what you normally run you should take you temp 3 to 4 times per day for a few days and find your aveage. YOur body temp will be lower in the morning and higher in the mid afternoon to evening.
