It's a song about how a husband still loves his wife after all of these years and still sees her as the sweet, young, beautiful girl he fell in love with. Fast cars and freedom refers to how young people view life--everyone wanted a cool fast car and you had the freedom to do anything you wanted to do.

It's about growing up. The quote in the song "You're not a day past fast cars and freedom" (or something like that) means you're still young? I think.

The good 'ole days. When we drove fast cars and felt free as opposed to now driving hybrids, paying bills and being concerned with responsibility.
