I focused on something else until the feeling went away.

Well I wont go into the intricacies. But I feel guilty over the smallest things I am that kind of person. I believe the most important thing is a clear conscience to sleep peacefully at night and I associate guilt with regret and I live by a no regrets policy. I feel guilty about taking the last chocolate even, small things like that, not giving money to a bum, not offering a friend help.

There is no way to deal with guilt, you must eliminate it: I always try to make things right. Even if i look stupid doing it or people think I'm strange or even if its 2 days 2 late, I will always do something to make it right. Otherwise I am unable to deal with it, or forgive myself or move on.

The other day i finished all the salmon. My 8 year old brother came home from school and asked for some. I said I finished it. He cried his eyes out. So I walked many miles down to the nearest shop to get him the salmon and I paid for it as well. So he could eat it. I am not giving my righteous sob story. I am just saying that the only way I could deal with that guilt was to 'make it up to him'.

As a child I was very mean to people. I bullied them. Including my younger brothers. They started being afraid of me and thinking that I was always shouting at them or making them feel bad. People at school hated me and I had teased a disabled child and quiet girl for years. And then suddenly in grade 7 something happened and I realized I had been such a terrible person. And in the 5 years since then I apologized to every single person and I mean over a hundred people especially those two people. I told them I was an a sshole and that I would understand if they never forgave me. But they did and now they are my best friends. All was forgiven and I could finally sleep at peace at night. Because otherwise the guilt would have comsumed me.

I have dedicated my life to making it up to my younger brothers by working twice as hard to be the model brother. They look up to me now. The older one forgives me for the bad times and I am a happier person for it. I am so glad I saved our relationship in time. I would have regretted it for the rest of my life had I not turned things around.

So in conclusion, what I am trying to say is: That, the only way to deal with guilt is to find out what you are guilty about and NO MATTER WHAT you have to do to make it up to that person or whatever you did, you must 'fix things'.

I hope this helps you.

My boyfriend broke up with me for my negativity, and I'm in love with him. I felt guilty for always looking on the bad side, and always being so selfish. But then I realized that I can change if I try and show him and everyone else that I can be a better person. If you feel wrong about something, you shouldn't just forget about it. You should take action.

Overcoming your guilt usually takes addmitting that you did something to either someone or asking God for forgivness... And that is what I do when I feel guilty - own up to what I did to bring the guilt on.

I said and prayer and asked God to forgive me first. Then I approached the situation and tried to make amends. That was really hard but I did it and I felt relieved afterwards.

I gave into the guilt and did something that I didn't want to do in the first place. I won't be doing that anymore.
